The Romanian gymnast was able at attracting international attention to help Romania to establish itself as a major player on the international stage. Her achievement of a score that was unattainable was what made the sports legend famous and popularized gymnastics across every country. Additionally, it altered people's perspective of female athletes. Her performance at the Olympics is so significant that her toe step (release) as well as her toe step are both named after her in the uneven bars event.
